If you did not grow up around the church, or have never been to church before, reading a beliefs page might be like reading the fine print at the bottom of a credit card application. We understand and have tried to make this page as easy and simple as possible. But don’t worry if there is something here you don’t quite get, we welcome questions and will answer any you may have about the beliefs of Fellowship Of The Crossroads.

If you grew up in church, or have a church background, this is some of the important info you are looking for.

In essential beliefs – we have unity. “There is one Body and one Spirit.. there is one Lord, one faith, one baptism, and one God and Father of us all.”  Ephesians 4:4-6

In non-essential beliefs – we have liberty. “Accept him whose faith is weak, without passing judgment on disputable matters… Who are you to judge someone else’s servant? To his own master he stands or falls… So then each of us will give an account of himself to God… So whatever you believe about these things keep between yourself and God.”  Romans 14:1, 4, 12, 22

In all our beliefs – we show charity “…If I hold in my mind not only all human knowledge but also the very secrets of God, and if I have the faith that can move mountains – but have no love, I amount to nothing at all.”  1 Corinthians 13:2

Essential Beliefs

We believe there is one God who has revealed Himself to us in three persons–the Father (our Creator), the Son of God (Jesus, our Savior), and the Holy Spirit (our Guide).  God is all powerful, all knowing, ever present, unchanging, completely trustworthy, faithful to His people and His promises.

The Bible

The Bible is God’s message to us, recorded without error in the original manuscripts.  It was written by human authors who were under the supernatural guidance of the Holy Spirit. It is the supreme source of truth for Christian belief and is just as relevant to our lives today as it was when it was written.

Yes…YOU. You are made in God’s image, made to be like Him in character. You are the supreme object of God’s creation and love. Although you have tremendous potential for good, you are marred by an attitude of disobedience towards God called “sin.” No matter how “good” you are it does not change this fact, and no matter how “good” you behave you cannot do enough, or be good enough, to overcome your sin problem. This attitude separates you from God until the relationship is restored through a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.

Heaven and Hell

Humans were created to exist forever. We will either exist eternally separated from God by sin, or in union with God through forgiveness and salvation. To be eternally separated from God is Hell. To be eternally in union with Him is eternal life. Heaven and Hell are places of eternal existence.

The Holy Spirit

The Holy Spirit is equal with the Father and the Son as God. He is present in the world to make people aware of their need for Jesus Christ. He also lives in every Christian from the moment of salvation. He provides the Christian with power for living, understanding of spiritual truth, and guidance in doing what is right. And when you don’t know how to pray, or what to pray for, He even steps in on your behalf. Someone who is a Christian seeks to live under His control daily.

Jesus Christ

Jesus Christ is the Son of God and co-equal with the Father. 100% God and 100% human at the same time.  Jesus lived a sinless human life and offered Himself as the perfect sacrifice for the sins of all people by dying on a cross. He arose from the dead after three days to demonstrate His power over sin and death. He ascended to Heaven’s glory and will return again to earth to reign as King of Kings, and Lord of Lords.

God’s standard is holiness, or to put it another way “perfection”. We can never make up for our sin by self-improvement or good works.  Salvation is a gift from God and it cannot be earned through our own efforts. Salvation occurs when people place their faith in the death and resurrection of Christ as sufficient payment for their sin. Only by trusting in Jesus Christ and God’s offer of forgiveness can we be saved from sin’s penalty. Eternal life begins the moment one receives Jesus Christ into his life by faith.

The Local Church

The church is not a building, or an address, or a location. The church is the people. The local church is an assembly of believers that come together on a regular basis to worship, fellowship, grow, challenge each other to greater things and hold one another accountable.
