Going old school Bible church on you today. Looking at a passage, a prayer, out of 1 Chronicles.

1 and 2 Chronicles was originally one large scroll – David’s reign 1 Chron 10-29, Later in the Septuagint, the Greek translated OT 2 Chronicles Solomon reign 1-9 and then the kings that followed after Solomon.

1 and 2 Chronicles is a retelling of the history of the kings of Israel and Juda written for God’s people after exile and captivity in Babylon and Assyria, after they returned to the Promises land and started to rebuild the walls of Jerusalem. These books were important, the Jews has had lost their land, temple, monarchy, stability, and identity. They were asking questions like… Who are we now? Are God's promises to David still valid? Does the Temple still matter? Are we still God's people after everything that happened?

First Chronicles opens with nine chapters of genealogies. The Jews church directory, just without the pictures. These genealogies reminded them, “You are still God’s people. Your story did not start with exile, and it does not end there either.” Chapters 1-9 of 1 Chronicles trace the people of Israel from Adam all the way down through the tribes of Israel, with special attention given to Judah, Levi, and the line that leads to David.
