The Hope of the World - “The Commission of the Church”
Last words are important. When someone is leaving or dying they speak and we lean in to hear and remember. I have had a few experiences with last words. My father said...don't worry about me it just a little dying...wow. I will never forget what he said. I also remember standing by the bed of a dear woman to hear her simple say...yes...then she slipped into the arms of Jesus.
This week we will hear the last words of Christ. They were not spoken from the cross but on a mountain top where he would ascend into heaven. We call it the Great Commission. He said go...or better said as you go. We are to live a life that openly declares that there is a savior and he loves you. The Great Commission is not the great suggestion. Jesus commanded us to preach the gospel, baptize, and make disciples by teaching them to obey everything he commanded. This is a tall task that is empowered by a great God. He is with us always, even to the end of the age.
This week lets lean in and listen to these last words and respond with our lives.
