Life Lessons from Country Music - JellyRoll's “It’s Okay to Not Be Okay”
Today continuing our series Life Lesson from Country Music with a song by one of the most unconventional Country Music artists today… Jelly Roll.
I was having one of those days… we all have them… something happened and it sent my mind back to a time in ministry when I was struggling, there have been 4 major times in my life where I dealing with hurt and depression over things that happened in ministry, something triggered those memories and I was reliving some of those feeling. As I was driving and flipping channels on the radio I came across a song I had never heard before…. “I Am Not Ok” by some singer named Jelly Roll… this was the first time I had ever heard of him and this song hit me like a ton of bricks… it was like he was siting in my truck and singing it straight to me.
Jelly Roll’s “I am not OK” express how someone who is struggling mentally and emotionally feels…such a simple but amazing song… and while we have some amazing singers here at FOTC I found a video of Jelly Roll, who’s real name is Jason Bradley DeFord, preforming this song at the Grand Ol Opry and in this performance you don’t just hear it… you feel it…
